I am starting to hear some HD noises in my PC, but the status light is not blinking.....

I am not using many apps at the same time, nor programs that require additional memory (I have 512MB installed and a 256MB Graphic card)

I defragmented and scanned the HD to optimize it, ran the anti virus, and then Ad-Aware to see if there was any spyware or virus, but nothing.....

Is there a way I can pinpoint what is accesing my HD and with what pourpose ?

And since I am in the subject, how do I know that programs like HL2 or Doom3 are really taking full advantage of the 256MB and loading the texture data directly to the video card ?

As far as I know, random disc activity is normal once in awhile. As long as you've checked for spyware / malware / viruses, it shouldn't be anything to worry about. Whatever programs you have running all the time, like virus software, firewall, etc. (as well as your operating system) will sometimes do what's called 'housework' (moving files, disc cleaning, etc.)

But if it's something that's happening all of the time, then it may be a malicious program...you can do a ctrnl+alt+delete and take a look at the Processes you have running. Then search each program's name at www.sysinfo.org under Startup info to see if any of them are malicious.

I'm no expert, but that's the extent of my knowledge on the subject...I'm sure there are others here who know more than me [img]biggrin.gif[/img]
